Prerow and the surrounding wild landscapes are, of course, also ideal for exploring by bike. Various well-signposted routes will take you over the dike, through the forest, and towards the sea air.

Cycling in and around Prerow

“It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best,” Ernest Hemingway once wrote. He would have liked Prerow. A well-developed and mostly level network of cycling trails invites you to a variety of active excursions. Our bike rental shops and the tourist information office have route recommendations and maps. For example, the dike path takes you from Prerow through unspoilt, lush forest toward the lighthouse. From there, you have a beautiful view of the Darß Forest, the West Beach and the Baltic.

The regional buses are equipped with bicycle racks and are available to transport you and your bike to various starting points from April to October. Bicycles can also be taken on the regular ferries to Fuhlendorf and Born. That way you can explore the region with combined boat and cycling tours.

One wonderful cycling tour that’s highly recommended covers the same path taken by the runners in the annual Darß-Marathon. You can cover the highlights of the peninsula in about 4 hours of cycling: the Darß Forest, the national park, the artists’ colony, coastal bluffs, the harbour and much more. The tour begins and ends at Darß-Museum in Prerow.
